Challenge
The Discover Darnall project is funded by Sheffield City Council’s Economic Recovery Fund, which aims to boost local businesses by encouraging people to shop locally.
The overwhelming feedback from businesses and the community is that one of their main concerns is the litter problem in Darnall.
I was approached by the project to develop a campaign identity for Our Darnall, Our Home, to help educate and empower local residents and businesses and help combat the litter problem.

Solution
I worked with the Project Manager Joy Arnott at Sheffield City Council and partner agency OD Create, who briefed me on the look and feel required for the campaign.
The materials needed to adapt for different audiences; having a more playful feel for materials aimed at local school children, and a more functional feel for those aimed at local businesses.
The developed brand included logos, colour palette, typefaces, illustrations and patterns.
The team worked with local school children in an anti-litter poster competition. I developed branded materials to promote the poster competition, and additional materials to engage with and educate local businesses and residents.
I also created some mini guidelines and a toolkit of brand materials for the team to refer to.
The campaign culminated in a big community clean-up in Darnall, and the unveiling of a new community garden and artwork.
Result
The feedback from project partners and the local community was very positive, with stakeholders commenting that they ‘loved the upbeat style and positive feel’.
